Admission applications are reviewed and decisions returned as quickly as possible once your application is complete. A complete application includes your submitted application, an application fee (unless waived), official transcripts and official test scores. Essays, portfolios or recommendations are not necessary.
Admission Term - Freshmen may begin in the Summer, Fall or Spring terms after high school graduation. While most students apply for admission to the fall term (courses begin in August), some admitted students will be required to begin in the UNM Early Start Program in the summer after high school graduation. Students required to enroll through the ESP program should plan to complete at least 3 credit hours (one course), either one English or math course. Students attending the summer semester will have continuing enrollment in the fall.
Application Form - Please submit either an online application or a hardcopy application form by the priority consideration deadline for the term to which you want to attend. We recommend the online application for faster response.
- Fall Term - May 1
- Spring Term – November 15
- Summer Term – May 1
Application Fee - $25 nonrefundable application fee or approved fee waiver. Approved fee waivers include waiver forms from the ACT & SAT testing services. Application fees are applicable for one year (four consecutive semesters). If you wish to postpone enrollment to a subsequent semester, please contact the Admissions Office.
Official Transcripts - Please have your school send your official transcript to the UNM Admissions Office directly. If you have completed college courses, please have each college send official transcripts as well. Admission is provisional until the Admissions Office receives a complete, final and official transcript verifying graduation or completion. Transcripts must be in a sealed envelope from the issuing college / school, or transmitted through an accepted provider.
Standardized Test Scores - ACT or SAT scores should be sent from the testing service. Be sure to designate UNM as one of the schools to which scores should be sent when you take the test. Only your highest ACT Composite or SAT Total score (Critical Reading + Mathematics) will be used for admission and scholarship purposes, be sure to have all your scores sent to the Admissions Office so that we can use the best score available. UNM’s ACT Code is 2650; UNM’s SAT Code is 4845. Applicants who have graduated from high school more than five years ago may submit COMPASS scores in lieu of an SAT or ACT score.
